Phil Selwyn grew up in a family where farming, engineering, and self-reliance were part of daily life. As a boy, he fixed engines, built machines, and saw that small ideas could solve big problems. One quiet day in Devon, a friend showed him an old hydraulic ram pump on a spring. It didn’t work — but the idea of water that pumps uphill, without electricity or fuel, stuck with him.
Driven by that moment, Phil reengineered the design, modernised materials, added his own improvements (including the patented Venturi valve), and brought the Papa Pump® into the world.
The Papa Pump® is now an internationally patented, injection-moulded hydraulic ram pump — lightweight, durable, certified for potable use, and built for places where water access was previously a struggle.
From UK farms to mountain villages in Nepal to cattle lands in Chile, communities now enjoy reliable water without fuel bills, grid electricity, or solar panel costs.
Our technology performs well under freezing conditions, survives fuel shortages and power outages, and is designed for ‘no sudden failures’.

Seradisc filter
A unique and patented multi disc, adjustable water filter screen manufactured using an injection moulding process with non-corrosive materials.
Venturo pump
Utilising the benefits of the ‘venturi’ valve on a larger scale enables the design of a pump capable of moving considerable quantities of water and is the world’s largest ram pump.

Phil has exhibited a keen interest in engineering, innovation and the environment since childhood, which continues to this day.
After studying engineering at college, Phil started his business career and has operated his own businesses since the age of 22 and has utilised these skills towards the development of WPT and the unique technologies that exist within the business.
Swathi Hegde is an experienced international business developer and strategist with over 10 years of global expertise in market expansion, investor relations, and strategic partnerships across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Having worked closely with founders, governments, and C-suite executives, she has scaled startups from concept to global ventures.
Ethan has previously studied mechanics and bodywork and has a keen interest in how things work and enjoys problem solving. He is currently studying an Engineering Operative course as part of his apprenticeship with WPT.
Outside of work and study Ethan enjoys walking with his dog Meg and socialising with friends.
Ellen has decades of experience in admin, sales, accounts and HR. She has worked alongside Founder and Technical Director, Phil Selwyn since 1997. Contact Ellen for all invoice/admin/general enquiries – if she cannot help, she will know someone who can.
Outside of work Ellen enjoys crafting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Having grown up surrounded by coast and countryside, Dana has had an interest in environmental issues from a young age. She has a sound understanding of the products & applications and utilises her skills in education and communication to oversee operations.
Outside of work Dana is a busy Mum to 3 young children and enjoys walking and sea swimming – when she can find the time!
